Singapore, 12 November 2022 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) and its convenience store arm Cheers, ExxonMobil and Auto Base, a car washing service company, came together for the annual charity car wash event. All funds raised from the car wash activity that took place this morning at the Esso Station at 225 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8 will be given to the Children’s Aid Society, which aims to provide a holistic range of residential care, counselling and other specialised therapies to support the vulnerable in the community.

Mr Vipul Chawla, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, who participated in the charity car wash activity, said, “Giving back has always been part of FairPrice’s DNA and we are excited to be able to play a part towards Children’s Aid Society. Volunteer activities such as this allows us to foster a stronger collaborative and giving culture both internally and with the wider community.”

Ms Ong Shwu Hoon, Asia Pacific Fuels Vice President, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. said, “ExxonMobil is committed to making a positive impact in the communities where we operate. Together with our alliance partner FairPrice, we hope today’s event will help the Children’s Aid Society and their community goals.”

This year marks the eighth edition of the charity car wash. The last time this activity was held was in October 2019. It was then suspended for 2 years for the safety of volunteers and the public due to the pandemic. Over the years, the initiative has supported various voluntary welfare organisations in the community including Lions Befrienders Service Association (Singapore), Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association (CARE) and Disabled People’s Association, with Children’s Aid Society as the beneficiary this year. More than S$71,000 has been contributed to these organisations throughout the years in support of their programmes for the community.

Mr Alvin Goh, Executive Director of Children’s Aid Society, said, “It is heartening to be able to collaborate with NTUC FairPrice, Cheers, ExxonMobil and Auto Base to do good. Not only does this raise awareness and money for Children’s Aid Society, but it also serves as a form of encouragement for all of us to know that there are people in the community who have a vested interest in giving our clients the best opportunities for healing and growth. On behalf of my team and clients, I would like to thank the organisers and volunteers for supporting our work, as well as all who have participated through contribution of time, money and effort.”

The charity car wash is part of FairPrice Volunteers’ Programme which started in 2012. Since then, FairPrice has clocked more than 27,000 hours in staff volunteer contributions as of 2021. The Volunteer Programme is a ground up initiative driven by leaders working at FairPrice who are passionate about the cause. Some of the activities include food packing to redistribute to those in need, gardening activities, excursions and visits to homes.
