- Textbook donations at physical points for Share-A-Textbook Project will conclude on Tuesday, 30 November 2021
- Project targets to collect more than half a million textbooks to benefit about 25,000 students from low-income families who have been invited to collect the textbooks.
SINGAPORE, 25 November 2021 – In the spirit of giving back to the community, NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) is inviting members of the public to come together in a final push to support its annual FairPrice Share-A-Textbook project by donating pre-loved textbooks in good condition at 81 selected FairPrice stores islandwide. This year, the project aims to help about 25,000 beneficiaries from low-income families alleviate their financial burden by providing free pre-loved textbooks. Besides reaching out to needy families, which is even more crucial during unprecedented times, it also promotes environmental sustainability through reusing and recycling of textbooks.
Donors who are still keen on donating their pre-loved textbooks that are in good condition may do so at 81 selected FairPrice storesincluding Warehouse Club, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice Finest stores, selected supermarkets, and FairPrice Xpress outlets at Esso service stations from now to 30 November 2021. (For a full list of collection points, please refer to the Appendix below).
All donated textbooks will be made available to about 25,000 students – between seven to 16 years old – from low income families. These students were shortlisted from various social service organisations and Community Development Councils, where they will be given priority to collect textbooks before access is given to the general public.
Since the project’s inception in 1983, more than 6 million books have been donated and redistributed. Last year, the Share-A-Textbook initiative collected and redistributed over half a million textbooks to beneficiaries and the general public. All uncollected textbooks were also sent for recycling.
Reminder to reserve collection slots early
To ensure the safety of the public and volunteers, various measures will be introduced to adhere to safe distancing measures. The textbooks collection area will be divided into three zones with a cap on the total number of people – including beneficiaries, members of the public and volunteers – allowed into each zone at any given time. Forms for the pre-booking of collection time slots have been made available for beneficiaries under the priority scheme and the public – a total of 10 hourly collection time slots are available each day, and each booking limits a total of two pax for collection of textbooks. (For more information, please refer to www.fairpricegroup.com.sg/share-a-textbook/#faq or email [email protected]). High-touch surfaces within the collection zones will also be sanitised after the end of each session.
The books will be available for the public to collect from 12 to 15 December 2021 at Our Tampines Hub. The number of distribution days will extend from two days in previous years to five days to facilitate collection of books in adherence to Covid-19 safety measures.
