  • Additional safe distancing measures implemented, including crowd control measures to limit number of customers within stores, to continue ensuring the safety of shoppers and staff

Singapore, 9 April 2020 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced that all shoppers are strongly encouraged to wear masks while shopping for groceries at all FairPrice stores. This is in line with the Ministry of Health’s latest approach of encouraging people to wear masks and to continue ensuring the safety of its shoppers and staff. All FairPrice staff are given masks daily and required to wear them during the course of their work at all supermarkets.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, said, “The rapidly evolving nature of the Covid-19 situation means that we have to be nimble and adapt promptly to the latest developments. To protect both our staff and customers, we strongly encourage our shoppers to wear masks while shopping at our stores. Wearing a mask complements safe distancing measures, provides some basic protection and also protects others should one be infected but unaware. We remind and also thank customers for acting responsibly to ensure the safety of all shoppers. Let’s do our part together to prevent the spread of Covid-19.”

Additional Precautionary Measures to Enhance Safety at Stores

To continue maintaining a safe and healthy environment for its shoppers and staff, FairPrice is introducing additional crowd control measures to limit the number of customers within each store when necessary, to ensure safe distancing measures are followed. Staff will be on hand to direct customers on their movements in and out of stores.

Existing measures include floor markings at checkout queues, in-store posters and announcements to encourage safe distancing. All food sampling activities have also ceased. Cleaning regimes have been stepped up, especially for high-touch surfaces like railings, trolleys, baskets, checkout counters, to every four hours. All staff and suppliers also have their temperature taken at least twice a day and hand sanitisers have been made available for customers to use.
