NTUC FairPrice unveils Pasar Organic, a New Range of Housebrand Organic Produce at Official Opening of Second FairPrice Finest

NTUC FairPrice today launched Pasar Organic, its new housebrand range of organic produce. In conjunction with the launch, the second NTUC FairPrice Finest store also officially opened its doors at Thomson Plaza.

All Pasar Organic produce is sourced from organic farms certified by Thailand’s Department of Agriculture. To ensure that Pasar Organic produce is truly organic, FairPrice developed the NTUC FairPrice Organic Assurance Programme (NOAP), with input from Agrifood Technologies Pte Ltd. FairPrice also engaged Agrifood Technologies as an independent third-party auditor to ensure Pasar Organic produce meet with NOAP standards.

NTUC FairPrice Chairman Ng Ser Miang said: “Pasar Organic is testimony to FairPrice’s brand promise to deliver safe, quality food at best value to our customers. Over the last few years, consumers worldwide have become more health conscious and the demand for organic food has grown. Recognising this increasing demand, we embarked on our journey to deliver truly organic produce at affordable prices to our customers.”

The NOAP is the first quality assurance programme in Singapore that assures the organic integrity of produce along its entire supply chain. Developed based on guidelines set by international bodies Codex and iFoam, the NOAP ensures stringent organic practices not just at the farms but also at the processing houses, transport and storage facilities as well as retail stores.

FairPrice’s Pasar Organic range will include more than 30 types of vegetables, including Asian varieties such as chye sim, kai lan and bok choy. The selection will complement the organic vegetables from the US and Australia retailed at FairPrice stores. From 31 July, Pasar Organic will be rolled out at the Just Organic section of FairPrice Finest Thomson Plaza and selected FairPrice stores. The Just Organic section features over 800 varieties of organic products, including condiments, baby food, canned products, beverages, fruits and vegetables, snacks as well as household cleaners.

Mr Ng added, “Being attuned to customers’ changing needs, we decided to have a Just Organic Section at FairPrice Finest Thomson Plaza to cater to growing demand for organic products. With the opening of our second FairPrice Finest store, we are one step closer to bringing the fine life to a larger segment of the community.”

FairPrice Finest Thomson Plaza will carry about 12,000 product varieties with product categories such as wine, fresh produce, groceries, health and beauty products, baby products and household items. There are also specialty sections like a gourmet butchery run by food specialist Culina, a Japanese section that carries popular snacks and a walk-in temperature controlled wine cellar with over 700 varieties of wine.

Mrs Michele Richards, 40, a shopper at FairPrice Finest Thomson Plaza, said:

“The Just Organic Section is the best I have seen in Singapore. I can find organic fruits and vegetables, which is great as I’m making organic baby food for my child. I love the fact that Just Organic carries such a wide selection of organic products which are conveniently located in one section. Which means I don’t need to go to the pasta aisle for the organic pasta and the household cleaning section for the organic washing powder.”

In line with the FairPrice Finest concept, FairPrice Finest Thomson Plaza will feature a more sophisticated product assortment, with some 30 percent of the product offerings that are not found at FairPrice stores. These include condiments such as Tetsuya’s rice vinegar and vinaigrette for oysters, the True Organic range of cheeses from Australia and the Sodasan range of organic cleaning agents from Germany.
