NTUC FairPrice has raised a total of S$155,740 through a donation drive held at more than 200 outlets across Singapore. This was the widest network of donation points for the fundraising effort. The funds raised will go towards the Singapore Red Cross China Earthquake Appeal to help victims rebuild their homes and lives.

NTUC FairPrice Group CEO Mr Tan Kian Chew said:” “FairPrice is glad that we have been able to leverage on our island-wide network of stores to raise funds for the earth quake victims in Sichuan. We are heartened by the generosity of our staff and shoppers who have contributed to helping the people in Sichuan get back on their feet. It goes to show that we can always do our part in helping people around us amidst our tight schedules and recent budgetary concerns.”

“The Singapore Red Cross is glad to be a partner with NTUC FairPrice in this nationwide fundraising effort for the survivors of the Sichuan Earthquake. Through their extensive network of outlets, it provided the convenience and opportunity for the general public to express their support towards our humanitarian work”, said Mr Christopher Chua, Secretary General of the Singapore Red Cross.

Red Cross donation tins/boxes were available for the public to make donations from 23 May to 14 June this year across all FairPrice Xtra, FairPrice Finest, FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Xpress and Cheers convenience stores.

Social responsibility is deeply rooted in FairPrice’s value system. Over the years, FairPrice has acted swiftly to render aid to the community. When the Boxing Day Asian tsunami disaster struck in 2004, senior management and staff volunteers put together 5,000 food relief packages within short notice. Last year, the FairPrice Big Heart Challenge raised more than $330,000 for five charities under the Community Chest in two and a half weeks. Over the last 5 years, FairPrice has contributed about 15 million dollars to the community.
