Following the success of the campaign in 2012, NTUC FairPrice Foundation and South East Community Development Council (CDC) will be collaborating for the “Recycling Helps @ South East 2013” campaign for a second consecutive year to promote recycling and raise funds for needy students at the same time.
“Recycling Helps @ South East 2013”, a three-month initiative which commences today targets to collect 2,000kg of recycled plastic bottles and cans to raise $10,000 worth of NTUC FairPrice food vouchers for 400 needy students. For every 5kg of recyclables collected by students, FairPrice Foundation will donate a set of vouchers worth $25 to a less-privileged fellow student studying in a school within the South East District.
“FairPrice Foundation is glad to once again support South East CDC to inculcate in students not only the importance of doing our part for the environment but also to lend a helping hand to the less fortunate. We hope that this initiative will help to instil these important values in the formative years of our youths,” says Mr Lum Hon Fye, General Manager for NTUC FairPrice Foundation.
“We are grateful for FairPrice Foundation’s partnership for the second year. This is part of our efforts to promote active citizenry within the District towards meaningful community causes such as caring for the less privileged as well as the environment,” says Mr Stanley Fong, General Manager for South East Community Development Council.
This campaign will also be supported by the Institute of Technical Education’s (ITE) novel “Green Bank” machines which would be touring around the 12 South East schools to collect, crush and tabulate the amount of recyclables gathered, making green dealings for the students simple, efficient and interesting. Ms Grace Tan, the hosting teacher of a new participating school, Eunos Primary School says, “Our school has always been an advocator for recycling and we want to infuse this culture among our students. Through this campaign, we hope our students can make recycling a part of their daily lifestyle.”
A photography competition, themed, “My Recycling Story @ South East 2013” will also be launched in conjunction with Recycling Helps @ South East 2013. This competition aims to provide a platform for youths to showcase their creativity and photography skills to document their recycling efforts via photographs. Winning works will be exhibited at the Clean & Green Singapore Carnival in October 2013. NTUC FairPrice will sponsor over $1,500 in prizes for this competition in support of this green movement.
“Recycling Helps @ South East” is a 5E initiative under Go Green @ South East, the South East CDC’s Greenplan towards environmental awareness and sustainability in the District.
