Deadline for donation for FairPrice Share-A-Textbook is Sunday 6 December 2015. Books can be dropped off at 152 donation points across all FairPrice stores including FairPrice Finest, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice Xpress outlets at Esso service stations and Warehouse Club
Singapore, 3 December 2015 – NTUC FairPrice is appealing to members of the public to donate more textbooks to the annual Share-A-Textbook Project, to benefit more students from low-income families. To date, the Project has collected about 300,000 textbooks, making up close to 75 per cent of its 400,000 target, since the donation drive was launched two weeks ago.
With just three days to the end of the textbook donation drive, FairPrice aims to reach its collection target to benefit some 20,000 needy students who have registered to receive textbooks under the priority scheme this year. The public is invited to drop off their books at any of the 152 FairPrice stores including FairPrice Finest, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, FairPrice Xpress outlets at Esso service stations and Warehouse Club located island-wide. The deadline for donating used textbooks is Sunday, 6 December 2015. The public can also visit www.moe.gov.sg/approved-textbook-list/ to check the current approved list of textbooks.
Mr Jonas Kor, Chairman of the NTUC FairPrice CSR Committee and Director for Corporate Communications said, “FairPrice Share-A-Textbook has benefitted low-income families for the past 32 years. We appreciate the strong support from the community that has kept this project a success all these years. With just three days left to the end of the collection period this year, we wish to remind the community of the deadline and hope that they will continue to share and contribute. Every donation counts toward helping low-income families alleviate their financial burdens and save resources through recycling.”
More than 400 volunteers from over 170 supporting partners are assisting the project this year in the areas of logistics, promotional efforts, mass community collection, sorting and distribution. First launched in 1983, the project has since collected over 3.5 million books. Low income families continue to find the project beneficial to them, with overall sentiment of receiving used textbooks being positive.
The public is invited to collect donated textbooks on the public distribution day, which will take place on 13 December 2015 from 9am to 3pm at Warehouse Club, Gan Eng Seng School and Yio Chu Kang Secondary School.
