SINGAPORE, 8 December 2014 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) opened its Warehouse Club (WHC) today, the first membership-only retail warehouse in Singapore for groceries and household consumables. WHC spans over 80,000 square feet, with a product range of 4,000 items, taking up two storeys at the FairPrice Hub, located at 1, Joo Koon Circle. The mega retail store follows a similar format of successful membership based stores that continues to expand and operate in the US and more affluent developed markets in the Asia Pacific region like Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Australia. As of today, WHC has already amassed close to 12,000 members.

Mr Gerry Lee, Deputy CEO (Operations), NTUC FairPrice, said, “Over the years, we have progressively introduced various retail formats to better serve our customers’ needs as we stay close to their changing lifestyles and market trends. Today, we are proud to bring another exciting new retail format that aims to provide our members with quality products at the best value, through large discounts with bulk buys, multi-packs and exclusive brands. The warehouse club concept has been a growing success overseas where shoppers enjoy very deep discounts by buying in large quantities.”

By purchasing items in bulk packs, WHC members can enjoy up to 20 percent in savings on a selected range of essential groceries, fresh and frozen food, household consumables, health and beauty products and general merchandise.

Products at WHC are sold in larger than usual packages and are available in bulk buys, value packs, multi-packs which offer greater value for money. In addition, there will also be specially listed products for members to discover in-store that offer very deep discounts of up to 50 percent.

WHC will also bring in new and exclusive brands sourced from around the world to provide members with greater variety. One of these brands include Kirkland Signature, a popular housebrand of Costco – a multi-national retailer that also operates on the membership-based warehouse retail concept – that offers a range of good valued products from snacks, nuts and beverages to condiments. Apart from this, popular housebrand products from major supermarkets around the world will also be available at WHC.

Membership for WHC is open to all – membership for WHC is S$35 per year for NTUC Union members and S$50 per year for non-Union members. More information on WHC can be found at www.warehouseclub.com.sg.
