FairPrice will donate $38 for every box of mandarin oranges sold by its senior management team; target to donate up to $200,000 to Ren Ci Hospital and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society

SINGAPORE, 26 January 2018 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) announced today that $38 will be donated for each box of mandarin oranges sold by FairPrice’s chairman, Mr Bobby Chin, its board members and senior management team during the Lunar New Year festive period, as part of the “One FairPrice Family” initiative. It aims to donate up to $200,000 through this initiative to aid the beneficiaries of Ren Ci Hospital and Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO, NTUC FairPrice, said, “The One FairPrice Family programme is designed to foster greater teamwork and a common sense of identity among all staff.  This year, beyond working at the stores to support frontline colleagues, we have enhanced the initiative to give more meaning to the Lunar New Year celebration where our board members, led by our chairman, together with our senior management team, will engage customers and business partners to join us in making lives better by doing good for the less fortunate through the sale of mandarin oranges. ”

Mr Bobby Chin, Chairman, NTUC FairPrice, and Mr Seah, kicked off the initiative by selling mandarin oranges this morning at the FairPrice @ HDBHub branch, and presenting the first boxes of oranges from the initiative to leaders of the two beneficiary organisations, Ms Loh Shu Ching, CEO, Ren Ci Hospital and Mr Lawrence Ng, CEO, Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society.

Other FairPrice board members and senior management staff will also be selling mandarin oranges at various FairPrice stores island-wide from today till 16 February 2018.

Mr Seah added, “The support and reception received from our business partners and corporate organisations have been very encouraging. The pre-orders for mandarin oranges that we have received have already exceeded 3,000 boxes. This translates to a donation amount of over $100,000. I am confident that with today’s official launch, our customers will also show similar support in bringing the festive cheer to the less fortunate.”

One FairPrice Family Programme

The One FairPrice Family Programme is a structured initiative that gives all FairPrice management and corporate employees – numbering some 800 employees based at FairPrice Headquarters (HQ) – the opportunity to engage in operational activities to foster inter-department integration among its 10,000 strong workforce and sharpen its focus on being a customer-centric retailer.

Under this initiative, management and corporate staff are requested to commit a minimum of three days annually to support the retailer’s key operational functions. The additional in-store support also seeks to alleviate additional manpower needs required to manage increased customer traffic during the festive peak season. Examples of tasks corporate staff engage in include attending to customers, replenishment, retrieving trolleys, and selling mandarin oranges during the Lunar New Year festive season.

In 2017, more than 50 percent of its management and corporate staff based in FairPrice Headquarters (HQ) participated this programme, contributing over 8,500 hours working at the store. Over 70 percent of the time contributed was spent over the LNY period. The additional in-store support made possible by this initiative will significantly alleviate additional manpower needs required to manage increased customer traffic during the festive peak season.
