Singapore, 8 February 2020 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) has ramped up its delivery schedule over this weekend to cater to the sudden surge in demand, following the Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (DORSCON) Orange status announced by the authorities yesterday evening.

Daily essentials like toilet paper, instant noodles and rice saw demand surge by as much as five times yesterday compared to the week before. The sudden increase resulted in a bottleneck of deliveries to the store, causing a temporary shortage of products last evening, with several stores emptied of its shelves for these products.

To cater to the expected high demand over the weekend, FairPrice has increased the volume of daily essentials being sent to the stores by three times; delivery trips have also been doubled. In fulfilling its commitment to moderate costs, prices of daily essentials will also be kept stable in an effort to deter profiteering during this period.

FairPrice continues to call for calm as supply of daily essentials remain available; there is no need to stockpile products.

The Co-operative employs an ongoing strategy of source diversification, working with suppliers from multiple countries, to ensure the community has a stable supply of daily essentials at affordable prices.
