SINGAPORE, 31 January 2019 – NTUC FairPrice announced today a donation of $38,000 to aid the beneficiaries of the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF). The donation amount was raised as part of the “One FairPrice Family” initiative where $88 was donated for every hour FairPrice’s Chairman and board members volunteered in helping store operations, while $8 was donated for every hour FairPrice’s senior management and staff from FairPrice Headquarters (HQ) stationed at the store during the busy Lunar New Year festive period to complement stores’ operations. In total, over 4,000 volunteer hours have been volunteered for this period.

To commemorate the donation, Mr Bobby Chin, Chairman of NTUC FairPrice and Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice, presented $38,000 to STSPMF, at FairPrice Xtra @ Ang Mo Kio Hub, witnessed by student beneficiaries of the fund. The students were also treated to a free shopping trip where they were gifted $38 to purchase groceries earlier in the day.

Mr Seah said, “The One FairPrice Family programme, which started in 2016, aims to promote solidarity and camaraderie among staff from different departments while also facilitating better understanding of customers’ needs. Apart from this, we also wanted to actively engage our staff in contributing to help the student beneficiaries supported by the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund through teamwork and empathy. Together with our community, we believe that every child deserves to be provided with an equal opportunity to develop his full potential.”

One FairPrice Family Programme

The One FairPrice Family Programme is a structured initiative that gives all FairPrice management and corporate employees – numbering some 800 employees based at FairPrice Headquarters (HQ) – the opportunity to engage in operational activities to foster inter-department integration among its 10,000 strong workforce and sharpen its focus on being a customer-centric retailer.

Under this initiative, management and corporate staff are requested to commit a minimum of three days annually to support the retailer’s key operational functions. The additional in-store support also seeks to alleviate heightened manpower needs required to manage increased customer traffic during the festive peak season. Examples of tasks corporate staff engage in include attending to customers, replenishing goods, retrieving trolleys, and selling mandarin oranges during the Lunar New Year festive season.
