Singapore, 28 November 2007 – Singapore’s largest supermarket chain, NTUC FairPrice, today presented half a million dollars to the Community Chest.

Raised with the help of FairPrice’s business partners through two major charity projects – Heartstrings Buys and the FairPrice Big Heart Challenge – the $500,000 was presented by Mr Tan Kian Chew, Group CEO of NTUC FairPrice to the Chairman of Community Chest, Ms Jennie Chua at the AWWA Community Home.

Beyond monetary donations, FairPrice Club V staff volunteers also took time off work to spread some early festive cheer to the residents of the AWWA Community Home, by springcleaning their homes and spending time to interact with them. The visit to the Home by FairPrice staff coincides with the celebration of the Active Ageing Festival.

Mr Tan Kian Chew, Group CEO of NTUC FairPrice said, “FairPrice is glad that it is in a position pull together our business partners, our staff and our customers to partner us in our community outreach. Their partnership and support have enabled the less fortunate in our society to have more than a shelter over their heads, a means to live an active life, or simply, to know that they are not forgotten. We look forward to more opportunities for FairPrice to serve as a conduit for all in our community to care for the disadvantaged in our midst.”

AWWA Community Home was identified, together with four other welfare organizations, as the direct beneficiaries for the FairPrice Big Heart Challenge. The other four welfare organizations are Fei Yue Family Service Centre, HCA Hospice Care, Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) and SUN-DAC Centre for the Disabled.
