SINGAPORE, 6 August 2018 – In celebration of its 45th Founders’ Day, NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) announced today that it will donate $1.2 million to the FairPrice Food Voucher scheme to help needy families alleviate their daily cost of living. More than 20,000 needy families and individuals across all 89 grassroots organisations (GROs) will benefit from this initiative.

Mr Bobby Chin, Chairman, NTUC FairPrice, said, “Since FairPrice was founded 45 years ago, we have served the community through our social mission to moderate the cost of living and to ensure that daily essentials stay affordable. As we commemorate our Founders’ Day, we remain committed to serving the needs of the community, especially that of the low-income families and continue to serve as a retailer with a heart.”

The event held at Community Plaza @ Oasis Terraces was graced by Mr Ng Chee Meng, Secretary-General, NTUC and Mr Tan Kok Ming Desmond, Chief Executive Director, People’s Association, and Mr Bobby Chin, Chairman, NTUC FairPrice. They spent the morning preparing breakfast and distributing goodie bags containing daily essentials to 45 beneficiaries of the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme. 

Mr Tan Kok Ming Desmond, Chief Executive Director, People’s Association said, “People’s Association is happy to partner the NTUC FairPrice Foundation for the FairPrice Food Voucher scheme. The contribution from FairPrice will go a long way in our Grassroots Organisations’ efforts to help over 20,000 low income families and individuals cope with their daily expenses. Being close to the community, our grassroots volunteers are aware of residents who need financial assistance and through the partnership with FairPrice, we are able to offer additional assistance in the form of vouchers to these residents. We look forward to the continued support from FairPrice to improve the lives of those around us.”

Launched in 2002, the NTUC FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme sees grocery vouchers distributed to needy families mainly through the Advisors of the Grassroots Organisations. To date this year, including this year’s donation, S$16.8 million worth of FairPrice vouchers have been distributed under this scheme.
