NTUC FairPrice Share-A-Textbook Project invites the public to collect free textbooks this Sunday on 11 December at four distribution centres – Yio Chu Kang Secondary School, Changkat Changi Secondary School, Jurong West Secondary School and Naval Base Secondary School.
This community project, now into its 29th year, received overwhelming support from the public and collected a record number of 320,000 books this year, after a collection period of three and a half weeks. This is about 40 percent more books collected compared to last year. The books collected include mainly primary and secondary school textbooks, as well as some storybooks, dictionaries, encyclopedias and assessments books.
“Since FairPrice Share-A-Textbook Project was first launched in 1983, it has grown year-on-year to provide free textbooks to more than 153,000 needy students with over two million books recycled. We are thankful that the community has continued to support this meaningful project. Not only will their action of sharing their textbooks help needy students to save on their textbook expenses, it will also help to save many trees for a greener environment”, said Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO (Singapore), NTUC FairPrice.
Over 400 student volunteers and volunteers from the project’s Supporting Partners will be mobilized to facilitate the distribution of the recycled textbooks at the distribution centres.
