• From 15 April 2020 to 4 May 2020, Pioneer Generation (PG) members will be able to use the PG card through their family members to enjoy the three percent discount at FairPrice outlets on Mondays and Wednesdays

Singapore, 13 April 2020 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced that it will be making an exception during the circuit breaker period by allowing family members of Pioneer Generation (PG) to purchase groceries at PG discounted prices on their behalf. This helps to protect the well-being of the more senior cohort in our community and the exception will take effect from 15 April 2020 until the end of the government’s circuit breaker measures on 4 May 2020.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO, FairPrice Group, said,“To encourage PG members to stay home during the circuit breaker period, we are making an exception on the PG discount scheme to empower their family members to enjoy the special savings when they purchase groceries on their behalf. We hope that this – together with all our other current measures – will help to further protect and keep them safe during these challenging times.”

PG members enjoy a three percent discount* at all FairPrice outlets when they shop on Mondays and Wednesdays. Family members of PGs need only to present the PG card of their kin to enjoy the discount. In 2019, FairPrice gave out S$4.26 million in savings through the PG Discount Scheme.

To shop during the Priority Shopping Hour, PG members will still need to be present to gain entry into all FairPrice stores as the intention of this initiative is to limit the number of shoppers within the store during the dedicated hour to provide the elderly with more time and space to shop.

Family members of PGs will not be allowed to utilise the PG card to gain entry during the Priority Shopping Hour, which is held every Monday during the first hour of each FairPrice store’s normal operating hours. For stores that operate 24-hours, the dedicated hour will be from 7am to 8am.
