The Pioneer Generation (PG) Discount on Mondays will be extended for another year till 31 December 2017, at FairPrice stores
From next year, the discount will also be expanded to include Thursdays
Close to $6.4 million in savings disbursed since the scheme was launched in October 2014

Singapore, 29 December 2016 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) announced today that it will be extending the Pioneer Generation (PG) Discount scheme to include Thursdays from 1 January 2017, where members of the Pioneer Generation[1] may enjoy a three per cent discount when they shop at all FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Finest outlets and FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets. The discount scheme currently applies only on Mondays. In addition, the PG Discount scheme will also be extended for another year, until 31 December 2017.  This is the third year that FairPrice has extended this initiative, where close to $6.4 million in savings have been disbursed since its launch in October 2014.  

Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice, said, “FairPrice continually seeks to make lives better through sustained and concerted efforts to benefit the community as a whole and also to targeted segments of our society. Not only are we extending the PG Discount for another year, we have decided to also include another day of the week where pioneers may enjoy the discount. We continue to honour our pioneers for their contributions to Singapore by providing them with greater savings for their daily necessities.”

With the inclusion of an additional day of the week for the PG Discount, pioneers will be able to enjoy a three percent discount on both Mondays and Thursdays, in addition to the two percent discount on Tuesdays under the Seniors Discount scheme, which applies to all shoppers above the age of 60. Both discount schemes will be on top of existing initiatives to help shoppers stretch their dollar. These initiatives include LinkPoints, membership rebates, purchase-with-purchase, Housebrand, Every Day Low Price (EDLP) and Yellow Dot products.

Mr Seah added, “Including the PG Discount on Thursdays, these will help pioneers further maximise their savings when they shop at FairPrice, as this is typically the day when attractive promotions are announced each week.”

Beyond savings, members of the Pioneer Generation also enjoy the use of designated priority payment counters at all FairPrice supermarkets and hypermarkets island-wide, which encourage customers to be gracious and allow PG members to move ahead of the queue while making payment.

To enjoy the PG Discount and priority queuing, Pioneer Generation members need only to present their PG card, provided as part of the Pioneer Generation Package from the government, at cashier counters at all FairPrice supermarkets.
