SINGAPORE, 28 December 2021 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced all Pioneer Generation (PG) members, Merdeka Generation members (MG) and Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Blue cardholders will be able to further enjoy savings for another year until 31 December 2022. The extensions of these dedicated discount schemes are estimated to help eligible customers save over $11 million. This is in addition to the $54 million in discounts given to PG members, MG members, seniors and CHAS Blue cardholders since 2015.
Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO of FairPrice Group, said, “Our seniors and the less fortunate in our community are vulnerable segments affected by the uncertainties caused by the prolonged pandemic. The extension of our various discount schemes seeks to complement our community efforts to provide financial relief to those affected, and at the same time, build a more resilient society.”

Similarly, at self-check-out counters, customers need to select the MG, PG or CHAS Blue discount option. These discounts are valid for purchases of up to $200 per transaction per day.
Pioneer Generation (PG) Proxy initiative
As part of encouraging seniors to stay safe by staying home, FairPrice is also extending its Pioneer Generation (PG) Proxy initiative until 30 June 2022. The proxy enables family members of seniors to enjoy special savings as they assist PG members to run their grocery errands. Family members of PGs need to present the PG card of their kin at all FairPrice outlets when they shop on Mondays and Wednesdays.
More than $10 million in discounts handed out in 2021
FairPrice first introduced the Tuesday Seniors Discount Scheme in 2002 and has continued to run the discount scheme since, disbursing over $2 million on average annually. Recognising the contributions of the PG and MG, FairPrice launched the PG and MG discount schemes in 2014 and 2019 respectively when they were first introduced by the government. This year, the PG, MG, Seniors discount schemes are estimated to cost FairPrice more than $10 million. The newly launched CHAS Blue Discount Scheme, is also estimated to cost more than $730,000 since its introduction in July this year.
FairPrice has given out more than $158 million to FairPrice Foundation in support of various charitable causes since the Foundation was launched in 2008. Last year alone, FairPrice donated $20 million through FairPrice Foundation, to support the less fortunate, especially those most affected by the pandemic.
