Singapore, 17 June 2016 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) saw its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Seah Kian Peng, elected as a member of the global Board of Directors of The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), a global network that brings together retailers, manufacturers, service providers, and other stakeholders across 70 countries.

Mr Seah is the only appointed board member from Singapore and South East Asia to sit on the 50-member board. He was appointed yesterday at the 60th Global Summit, organised by CGF, held at Cape Town, South Africa from 15th to 17th June 2016. Representatives on the board include the CEOs of global MNCs that span across both retailing and manufacturing. More information on the list of CGF Board of Directors can be found at http://www.theconsumergoodsforum.com/about-the-forum/our-board-of-directors.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice, commented: “FairPrice is here to make lives better, and we are honoured to be given the opportunity to participate and contribute to CGF. This vote of confidence is an indication of our unrelenting dedication to serve the community by continuing to evolve and remain relevant to the needs of our customers while also championing socially responsible causes such as sustainability and healthier eating. As a collective group of some 400 organisations from across diverse geographies, we can come together and drive positive change throughout the industry on a global scale.”

The appointment of Mr Seah to the board of CGF demonstrates FairPrice’s continued standing in the global consumer goods industry as a top retailer that can facilitate intra-industry development in the consumer goods sector.

Former Group CEO of FairPrice, Mr Tan Kian Chew, previously held the position as a member of the Board of Directors of CGF since 2006, and withdrew from the CGF board in 2015 prior to stepping down from FairPrice last year. Mr Seah was subsequently appointed as CEO of FairPrice in January this year.

As a global network, CGF brings together the top management of some 400 organisations in the industry, which have combined sales of EUR 2.5 trillion (SGD 3.78 trillion), and with its members employing nearly 10 million people worldwide. Its mission is to pursue business practices for efficiency and positive change across the industry, benefitting shoppers, consumers and the world.
