The North East Community Development Council (CDC) and NTUC FairPrice Foundation will be launching the “Wish Upon A Silver Star 2014” fundraising project on Monday 29 September 2014, at Tampines Changkat Community Club with the help of approximately 1,000 PAP Community Foundation (PCF) students, teachers and parents-volunteers from 18 PCFs in Tampines.

The fundraising project is in its second year, and North East CDC – NTUC FairPrice Foundation seeks to benefit 200 underprivileged young families living in the North East district (these families must have at least one child under the age of 12). The funds raised aims to provide them with essential household items and the children necessity items. North East CDC’s Care Team, which comprises volunteer and grassroots befrienders from across the district, will collate a wish-list of essential items from these families during their home visits.

This community fundraising effort will be held over three months (October to December), where every 10 origami stars folded will garner $1 in sponsorship. Schools, Voluntary Welfare Organisations (VWOs), community organisations and residents will be invited to make origami stars in support of the project. The initiative targets to collect one million stars to raise $100,000 towards buying the necessary items for the underprivileged young families.

This year, we will be looking to benefit needy young families to alleviate their financial burdens of raising a family by providing daily household necessities. As a social enterprise, we are committed to serving the community and working with partners such as North East CDC who share the same goals as us to build a caring and inclusive society. This enables us to make a much greater impact in doing good. Over the next three months, FairPrice Foundation, together with North East CDC, will donate S$1 for every 10 stars folded by volunteers. We aim to donate S$100,000 for 200 needy young families living in the North East district. Beyond monetary contributions, our staff will also be volunteering for this initiative and we hope to bring people from all walks of life together to do their part for our society.”
