To promote a healthy lifestyle, this inaugural walking event will see an expected 5,000 participants come together for a fun day of family bonding
FairPrice Foundation will donate $100 for each participant that signs up
An expected 5,000 participants will gather at Marina Barrage for NTUC FairPrice’s inaugural walking event, “FairPrice Walks With U”, on 29 June in an effort to promote healthy lifestyle and family bonding amongst Singaporeans.
To kick-start the registration drive for the “FairPrice Walks With U” event, NTUC FairPrice Foundation announced at the media launch event held at FairPriceXtra@Ang Mo Kio Hub today, that it will be pledging a donation of $100 in FairPrice vouchers for every registered participant. The vouchers will go towards the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme, which provides vouchers for families who have qualified for assistance schemes to purchase daily essentials through grassroots organisations (GROs) of all 87 constituencies in Singapore. More than 20,000 families and individuals will benefit from this scheme.
Mr Lum Hon Fye, General Manager for NTUC FairPrice Foundation, said, “In support of NTUC FairPrice’s inaugural walking event, we are happy to donate FairPrice vouchers through the Food Vouchers Scheme again this year. We hope that the participants will join us in doing good for the community while enjoying a fun and healthy morning walk with their families. Together, we can create a much bigger impact in making a difference for Singapore.”
FairPrice has been working with grassroots organisations and welfare organisations in assisting lower income families to meet their daily needs through the FairPrice Food Voucher scheme since 2002. To date, the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme has contributed more than $10 million worth of FairPrice vouchers to help such families cope with inflation.
Walk Healthy, Live Happy
To tie in with the theme for the event ‘Walk Healthy, Live Happy’, a launch activity today was held at the FairPriceXtra@Ang Mo Kio Hub, which saw five teams made up of selected families who have qualified for assistance schemes, media personnel and FairPrice staff who walked through the aisles of the FairPriceXtra hypermarket to shop for a week’s supply of daily essentials, which will then be donated to each participating family. Each team was given a $100 FairPrice voucher for the activity.
The “FairPrice Walks With U” event expects to attract participants of all ages from all walks of life. Walkathon participants will start their scenic 4km walk at the Barrage and make their way towards the Gardens By The Bay (East), right next to the Marina Bay Golf Course, against the backdrop of some of Singapore’s most famous landmarks such as the Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands and the iconic Cloud Forest and Flower Dome at the Gardens by the Bay. Participants will also be entertained by various entertainment stations along the walking route.
Commenting on the walk, Ms Christina Lim, Director for Brand & Marketing, NTUC FairPrice, said, “We are very excited with this inaugural signature event and we hope that our members and the community will support this initiative, which promotes family bonding and healthy living.”
