SINGAPORE, 24 March 2015 – NTUC FairPrice joins the nation in mourning the loss of Singapore’s first Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. As a mark of respect to Mr Lee, FairPrice Walks with U, a walking event scheduled this weekend on 29 March 2015, at the Singapore SportsHub will be cancelled. That day is also the somber occasion of Mr Lee’s state funeral, where Singaporeans join in one accord to bid their final farewell to the nation’s founding father.

While the event is cancelled, FairPrice Foundation will fulfill its earlier commitment to donate $150 for each registered participant. As there are 8,000 people who had registered for the walk, this donation will amount to $1.2 million. The funds will go towards the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme to help lower-income families defray the cost of daily expenses. Last year, FairPrice Foundation donated $1 million to the FairPrice Food Voucher Scheme.

Additionally, all proceeds from participation fees from FairPrice Walks With U 2015, will be donated to charity. The participation fee is $10 to $15 per participant. Participants need not return their goodie bags and T-shirt which have been distributed earlier.

However, participants who wish to obtain a refund can contact (+65) 8452 5163 (calls only) during office hours from 9.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday (excluding Public Holidays) or email walkswithu@fairprice.com.sg by Saturday, 4 April 2015, 12pm.

FairPrice thanks participants for their support and is grateful for their understanding. The co-operative also apologises for any inconveniences caused.
