FairPrice Used Textbooks Project 2009 benefits 50% more needy students

A total of 17,400 people had turned up at the six collection centres for used textbooks donated by the public. They collected about 70% of the more than 200,000 books available this year.

This year’s turnout marks an increase of about 50%, compared to last year when 11,500 people showed up to collect the used textbooks. Collection was spread across two days – Sat, 5 Dec for needy students under the Priority Collection Scheme, and Mon, 7 Dec for members of the public.

More than 200,000 textbooks were donated by the public this year, a 30% increase compared to the 150,000 received last year.
