Singapore, 26 July 2021 – NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) today announced that it has enhanced its omni-channel customer experience by offering customers the convenience of paying for their purchases across all FairPrice retail formats and Unity pharmacies island-wide through the FairPrice app. The enhanced FairPrice app, which will be available on 1 August 2021, enables customers to shop both online and at physical stores and at the same time, earn, redeem and track LinkPoints, without the need to carry a physical rewards card. Prior to this, customers would be required to present a physical Plus!/NTUC Plus! (Union) card or OCBC Plus! credit card for their purchases in order to earn or redeem loyalty points.

Cashless transactions saw a 25 per cent year-on-year increase in 2020, making up more than half of all transactions at physical FairPrice outlets. This indicates a significant shift as customers move towards digital payment, which also has the benefit of speeding up in-store transactions and reducing queue waiting times, while also minimising physical contact.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, Group CEO of FairPrice Group said, “The enhanced FairPrice app marks a significant milestone in our digital transformation strategy and provides our customers with an easier and more intuitive way to make payment. It also empowers them with the convenience of tracking their transactions as well as checking balances on their reward points so that they can maximise savings when they shop with us.”

The pandemic is transforming the retail industry and businesses are serving consumers through multiple channels and platforms. To this end, FairPrice envisions a seamless omni-channel approach towards customer experience – a new normal shopping experience that strives to engage customers anytime and anywhere, both online and offline.

FairPrice serves over 500,000 customers daily through a network of over 230 stores in varying retail formats to suit differing customer needs including FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Finest, FairPrice Shop, FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets, Warehouse Club and Unity pharmacies. Its e-commerce platform, FairPrice Online, serves over 370,000 customers.

Card-free transactions

With the enhanced FairPrice app, customers can now benefit from having their loyalty points and purchase receipts digitally tracked in real-time. This removes the need for customers to carry any physical or payment cards when they shop in-store.

No membership fees and minimum spend to earn LinkPoints

From 1 August 2021, the Plus! Rewards programme will no longer require a minimum spend to start earning LinkPoints. Currently, members have to spend at least $20 when shopping at FairPrice to earn LinkPoints. This will enable customers with smaller basket sizes to maximise their savings, providing more savings to a wider pool of customers as the Plus! Rewards programme is free with no recurrent subscription fees.

To provide a more seamless and equitable shopping experience, LinkPoints will also be extended to include FairPrice Online customers. This rewards benefit is currently limited to customers of physical FairPrice stores.

FairPrice app is available for download on Apple Store or Google Play.
