Singapore, 29 May 2015 – In celebration of Singapore’s 50th birthday, NTUC FairPrice (FairPrice) will be giving out an SG50 gift to all its employees. Non-executives will receive $200 and executives will receive $100 in FairPrice vouchers in August. With about 10,000 staff, the initiative will cost the co-operative close to $2 million.

This initiative to reward staff for their dedication, hard work, and for making a difference in the community has been part of FairPrice’s plans earlier this year as a series of activities to commemorate the nation’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Today, in response to the National Wage Council’s recommendations, NTUC has also announced, among various matters, that it is encouraging employers to provide workers with a SG50 gift.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO (Singapore), NTUC FairPrice, said, “We are supportive of NTUC’s proposal for employers to provide a special SG50 gift to their staff to commemorate National Day this year. As a major retailer with almost 10,000 employees, we want to share the joy of the occasion and show our appreciation to our staff, some of whom have been with us since we were established over 40 years ago, for their contributions to both FairPrice and to the development of Singapore.”

Earlier this year, FairPrice embarked on various initiatives to commemorate Singapore’s 50th anniversary. This includes its commitment to contribute 5,000 hours in volunteer hours as part of the FairPrice Volunteers Programme and the ongoing community campaign, “For the Heroes in our Lives” which aims to inspire Singaporeans to express gratitude for one another.
