The road to entrepreneurship will no longer be a rocky one with the “I am an Entrepreneur!” scheme launched by Cheers Holdings Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore’s largest supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice.

The “I am an entrepreneur!” scheme offers aspiring entrepreneurs a better understanding of the convenience store business through a 5-day modular course subsidized by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency. Participants will undergo training on areas such as shop and product display, inventory control, stock management and cost control. At the end of the course, they will receive a Certificate of Performance in Convenience Store Retail.

“By launching the “I am an Entrepreneur!” scheme, we hope to equip our staff with adequate knowledge on how to run a business and also inspire them to take on the challenge and become a boss of their own Cheers store,” said Mdm Cynthia Phua, Deputy Chairman of Cheers.

All course participants are given a unique opportunity to gain ownership of a Cheers convenience store by converting from employee to operator. Launched in late 2003, the operator scheme allows existing staff with good track record to take over a corporate store. They will be able to reap in profits from their hard work through a sales incentive system.
